Designed by Bill Bowerman and released on 10 February 2022 as part of Nike's Blazer line. This release has a suede upper in Black/White/Olive Aura. The Blazer Low is the least technical shoe in Nike's catalogue: a flat court silhouette with no cushioning system, no cage, no visible engineering. Handing it to Acronym, a label whose entire discipline is function-led construction and hardware, sets up a productive argument. There is nothing to strip out, so the collaboration has to add: fastening systems, layers, and detailing that treat a plain shoe as a platform for a technical idea. Nike has spent decades letting outside designers work on its archive rather than only licensing its logo, and the Blazer is the shape that takes that best, because it carries no cushioning heritage anyone feels obliged to protect.
Two recipes. First, full technical: nylon trousers with a shell or a hooded mid-layer, where the shoe's hardware belongs to the same system as the rest of the outfit. Second, tempered: straight black denim and a plain knit, so the shoe supplies all the detail and nothing else competes. Blazers run long and narrow, so consider a half size down, and take time learning the closure before wearing them somewhere you need to move fast. Best in dry conditions, since hardware and layered panels hold water. Clean by hand with a soft brush, avoid soaking any technical fabric, keep the hardware dry, and store with shape support in the toe.
Nike's collaborations began as pure commerce, distributing Onitsuka Tiger from 1964 until 1972, and its longest creative relationship is with Wieden and Kennedy from 1976, which produced Just Do It. The modern version hands the archive to outside designers and lets them rework it, an instinct that also produced work with the artist Takashi Murakami on digital product in 2022 and the acquisition of the virtual sneaker studio RTFKT in December 2021. Technical fashion is one of the few registers Nike cannot fully occupy on its own, since its own design language is sport-first, which is exactly why a functional design partner on a plain court shoe produces something the in-house range would not.
The base is the original Blazer Low build, a low-cut panelled upper on a thin flat bottom with no visible Air cushioning, which is why the shoe sits so close to the ground and feels so direct. What a technical collaboration changes is how the shoe closes and how it layers: fastening hardware in place of or alongside conventional lacing, and materials chosen for behaviour rather than for appearance. That approach shares a logic with Nike's own Flywire thinking, holding the foot through tension and minimal material rather than through stacked panels. In wear, expect a firm ride on hard ground with none of the cushioning a modern trainer gives you, and a closure system that takes a few wears to become automatic.
