Designed by Eric Avar and released on 13 February 2026 as part of Nike's Zoom Kobe 6 line. This release has a synthetic upper in Dark Grey/Chlorine Blue-Daring Red. Protro is Nike's word for a retro rebuilt with current performance parts rather than reissued as it was, and the 3D All-Star treatment puts that on an All-Star weekend palette. The Zoom name in the title tells you what is under the foot. Nike's basketball authority was built from 1984 onward, when the company signed Michael Jordan and turned an endorsement into a business of its own, and it has been the official on court uniform supplier to the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League since 2017 under a deal signed in June 2015 and extended for twelve more years. A low cut Protro sits inside that institutional weight and plays against it.
Two ways. First, on court: this is a guard's shoe, so lace it tight through the midfoot, wear a cushioned crew sock and keep it for indoor floors, because outdoor courts destroy court rubber fast. Second, off court with black tapered trousers, a plain hoodie and a bomber, letting the All-Star colours be the entire accent. Sizing on low cut basketball shoes runs snug, so try before committing if you can. Wipe the outsole before every indoor session because dust is what kills traction. Clean the upper with mild soap and a soft brush, and store away from sunlight since bright colour panels fade before the shoe wears out.
Nike became the shoe of basketball through the Jordan signing of 1984 and the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising, and through basketball it became the shoe of hip hop. From there its product turned into a status symbol in urban fashion and then into everyday American youth dress. A Protro is a performance retro: the silhouette is preserved while the cushioning and the internal build are updated to current standards, which is why these feel different underfoot from the original run even when they look identical. Zoom in the name refers to Nike Air technology, pressurised gas sealed into the midsole, tuned in this application for court feel rather than for maximum stack. The low cut is a deliberate choice for guards, trading ankle coverage for freedom, so it needs lacing tension rather than collar height to hold you.
