Part of On Running's Cloudnova line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Glacier. The Cloudnova is where On's engineering language turns fashion facing, a chunkier read on the same pods that started with a cut garden hose in Zurich. Olivier Bernhard built that first sole after Nike declined the idea, then founded On in 2010 with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, and the whole catalogue since has been an argument about one feeling: soft landing, hard take off. This women's pair runs White Glacier, tonal and cold, white through the upper with a pale grey shadow behind it. It is the colourway you choose when you want the silhouette to read as sculpture rather than sportswear, and it explains why On now sells to people who have never entered a race.
White Glacier wants clean lines around it. Try it with off white wide leg trousers and a grey ribbed tank so the whole look stays in one temperature, or drop it under black cropped tailoring with a white tee when you want contrast doing the work. It is a good travel and long day shoe rather than a rain shoe, and the pale upper is happier on pavement than on wet grass. Take your usual sneaker size and expect a secure fit through the midfoot on the chunkier last. Protect it before first wear with a spray, clean marks the same day with foam cleaner and a soft brush, and clear the outsole cavities with a dry brush so the pods do not pack with grit.
On is fifteen years young and grew fast enough to feel older: about 6,000 retailers across 55 countries by 2019, roughly 40 percent of the Swiss running market, then a New York Stock Exchange listing in September 2021 under ONON. The cultural pivot was Roger Federer, a shareholder from November 2019 and collaborator on The Roger from July 2020, which moved On from specialist runner to object people wear on purpose. The tennis roster signed from March 2023, Iga Swiatek, Ben Shelton and Joao Fonseca, kept the brand in mainstream sport. A white Cloudnova is the clearest expression of that shift: a running technology worn because it looks like running technology.
White on white puts every seam and pod on display, which suits a shoe whose sole is its identity. CloudTec shapes foam into specialised geometries instead of relying on the foam alone, so the cavities compress horizontally as well as vertically and support the foot through the whole roll of the stride. On a lifestyle leaning shape, that translates into a soft, slightly springy first step and a platform that keeps its footprint under a wide leg trouser. The Glacier grey sits underneath and around the wear points, which is a quiet piece of practicality in an otherwise bright shoe. Designed in Zurich, made in Indonesia and Vietnam, and finished to the standard that carries the brand's positioning.
