Origin
Oat is the tone Yeezy kept returning to. The adidas deal was confirmed on 3 December 2013 and delivered its first product in February 2015, and the palette that arrived with it was named after materials and terrain rather than fashion seasons: Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove, Moonrock, Desert Rat. The Boost 350 V2 followed on 24 September 2016 and became the shape most people picture when they hear the word Yeezy. Mx Oat belongs to the later marbled run, where the MX naming signalled a mixed, mottled knit rather than one flat tone. The result reads like raw grain: warm, pale, slightly dirty in the best way. adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022, so this pair exists as archive stock, not as a shoe still in production.
Utility
Two ways in. Tonal first: oat trousers or washed beige carpenters, a cream tee, an unlined canvas overshirt, so the shoe reads as a continuation of the outfit rather than its punctuation. Then contrast: black wide leg denim with a charcoal knit, letting the pale upper do all the lifting. The 350 V2 runs snug through the midfoot, so take your usual size and let the Primeknit relax around your foot. Treat this as a dry weather shoe. Pale knit and wet streets do not get along, and Boost picks up staining from damp dust fast. Brush with a soft dry brush after each wear, spot clean with foam and cold water, never put them through a machine, and keep them out of direct heat so the midsole holds its shape.
Influence
The 350 V2 is the shoe that turned a sneaker release into a mainstream event. Limited drops created queue culture, bot buying and a resale market that outgrew retail, and GQ in 2016 called these the most influential sneakers around. Forbes in 2020 described the commercial rise as one of the great retail stories of the century, and at its peak the line was worth roughly two billion dollars a year to adidas. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy, and that same partnership ended on 25 October 2022 when adidas terminated the deal over his antisemitic public remarks, calling them unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. A quiet pale colourway like Oat carries all of that history without shouting about it.
Construction
The upper is Primeknit, the one piece machine knitted textile that gave the 350 its sock like fit and let the design skip traditional panels and stitched overlays. Under it sits a Boost midsole, the expanded TPU pellet foam whose speckled surface is as much a signature as the bounce it returns. The oat tones are worked through the knit itself rather than printed onto it, so the mottling shifts as the fabric flexes and creases. There is no visible logo anywhere on the shoe, which was deliberate: recognition was meant to come from silhouette and colour alone. Expect a snug midfoot, a collar you pull on rather than lace open, and a foam bed that settles into your stride after a week of wear.
