Designed by Kanye West and released on 26 March 2021 as part of the Yeezy Foam Runner line. This release has a eva upper in Moon Grey/Moon Grey/Moon Grey. Moon Grey belongs to the marbled chapter of the Foam Runner, where the MXT naming marks a mixed foam treatment rather than a flat single colour. The base model released on 26 June 2020 as one moulded clog with an oval cut through the toe and a heel that sweeps up in one line, and the marbled versions arrived once the shape was established enough to take a pattern. The name follows the same instinct as Moonrock from the earliest adidas colourways: lunar, mineral, cold. adidas terminated the Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022, so a marbled Foam Runner like this exists as archive rather than as a colour still in production.
Marbling is a texture, so keep fabrics smooth around it. Recipe one: charcoal wide leg sweats and a plain grey tee, letting the swirl be the only pattern anywhere in the outfit. Recipe two: black shorts with a white tee and no socks in hot weather, where the grey mottling reads as stone rather than as print. Avoid anything else patterned. Foam Runners fit large, so size down, and they favour a broad foot. Best for travel days, warm weather and short walks, worst on slick wet tile. Rinse with cool water and a soft cloth, do not use solvents which can dull the foam, and always dry in shade, because sunlight and heat will deform the moulding.
Marbled foam is where the Foam Runner stopped being a strange experiment and started behaving like a collectible surface treatment. By then the model had already pushed out of sneaker culture into general fashion and had been imitated across the mass market, so a pattern that could not be cleanly copied was a useful piece of differentiation. The whole line was built on the idea that recognition should come from silhouette rather than a logo, and a shoe with neither logo nor repeatable colourway is the furthest expression of that. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy; adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 over his antisemitic public remarks, which it called unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
This is one piece injection moulded EVA, partly made from algae derived foam, and in the marbled versions the tones are carried through the material itself rather than applied to the surface. That has a real consequence for ownership: the swirl runs all the way through, so a scuff exposes more pattern instead of stripping colour off, and marbling of this kind never lands identically twice, which means your pair will not match the product photograph exactly. There is no lining, no stitching and no separate sole. The vents cut weight and let heat out. Expect a wide fit, an unlined footbed that suits bare feet, and a foam that firms up in cold air and softens as you wear it.
