Released on 18 September 2021 and part of the Yeezy Foam Runner line. This release has a eva upper in Ochre/Ochre/Ochre. Ochre is a pigment name, which suits a shoe that looks more like a moulded object than a piece of footwear. The Foam Runner released on 26 June 2020 with an oval vented toe and a heel that rises in one unbroken sweep, and it carried no logo of any kind, so its identity rested entirely on that outline. A deep earthy orange brown gives the form warmth and weight, closer to fired clay than to anything sporty, and it sits naturally in a palette that had always preferred pigment and terrain to fashion colour. adidas terminated the Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022, so this colourway now trades as archive rather than current product.
Ochre is strong enough to lead an outfit. Recipe one: dark olive or brown cargo trousers with a cream tee, so the shoe sits inside an earth palette and reads as considered. Recipe two: black shorts with a plain white tee in hot weather, letting the burnt orange tone be the only colour in the frame. Avoid pairing it with red or bright blue. Foam Runners run large, so size down one, and they suit broad feet best. Use them for travel, warm days and quick errands, not for long distances or wet polished floors. Rinse with cool water, wipe with a soft cloth, skip solvents which dull the pigment, and dry in shade away from heat.
The Foam Runner did something rare: it changed what mainstream footwear was allowed to look like. It crossed from sneaker culture into general fashion and was imitated across the mass market within a couple of years, to the point where moulded foam clogs stopped being a statement and became an ordinary shelf item. That happened to a product with no logo anywhere, which was the design argument the line had made since its earliest adidas releases. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy, and adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 after his antisemitic public remarks, which the company called unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
The whole shoe is injection moulded in one piece from EVA, partly made from algae derived foam, with the vents, footbed and ridged base all formed together. There is nothing glued, nothing stitched and no lining, so the pair weighs very little and dries in minutes. A saturated earth tone hides marks better than the pale versions, which makes this one of the more practical Foam Runner colours for real use, though foam always scuffs rather than wipes clean. Expect a wide fit with the vents landing where the foot flexes, a firm initial feel that softens under body heat, and enough sidewall structure that the shape stays put when the shoe is off.
