Released on 29 February 2024 and part of the Adilette line. This release has a synthetic upper in Red/Red/Cloud White. Red with white is the Adilette in its most literal club colours arrangement, which is the register the slide was born in. This is pool deck and locker room equipment, designed around a single moulded strap and a contoured footbed, and the red and white pairing puts it straight back into a team environment rather than a fashion one. The Three Stripes on the strap are the whole design, which is possible only because adidas turned a mark it bought from Karhu Sports in 1952 into something recognisable at a glance from across a pool. A red slide is a deliberately visible object: it is the version you wear when you want the shoe to register, not disappear.
Recipe one: white or grey mesh shorts with a plain tee and white crew socks, the full unbothered post training uniform where the red does all the work. Recipe two: navy linen trousers with a white shirt for evening heat, worn barefoot, where the red slide becomes the only saturated element. Slides fit long, so size down when between sizes and let the heel sit near the back edge. Use them for pool, gym, travel and short errands, not for long walks on wet pavement, where the flat tread loses grip. Rinse chlorine and salt off immediately, since both degrade foam, scrub the footbed with a soft brush and mild soap, and dry out of direct sunlight to slow the fade.
adidas products cross over when other people decide they should, not when the brand decides. The Superstar was adopted wholesale by hip hop, giving adidas a second life it had not designed, and Run-DMC's unpaid My Adidas led directly to the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. Tracksuit and terrace culture, which turned the Superstar and the Stan Smith into the base layer of European casual dressing, took the slide with it. A red and white pair leans into that sports club association rather than hiding it, which is why it looks correct with track pants and slightly wrong with tailoring.
The build is a one piece moulded footbed with an arch contour and a heel cup, matched to a moulded synthetic strap. No stitching means nothing to fail in water, which is the design's founding condition. The footbed surface is textured so a wet foot stays put, and the outsole is a flat tread tuned for tile rather than street. In red and white the strap and base separate visually, so the Three Stripes read as white against a saturated body, which is the highest contrast the model offers. The compound is a light foam that dries fast and weighs almost nothing. Expect the red to fade slightly with heavy sun exposure, which is normal for a saturated foam.
