Part of the Purechill line. This release has the Hi-Res Yellow/Core Black/Core Black colourway. Hi-Res Yellow over Core Black is a safety-vest palette used on purpose, and on the Purechill Runner it turns a contemporary running-adjacent shape into the loudest shoe in the range. adidas has always been comfortable with high-visibility colour on performance product, because its performance side is where the brand argues for itself. That side carries the three angled bars introduced in 1997 by creative director Peter Moore, while the Trefoil marks the Originals archive. A runner in hi-res yellow belongs entirely to the first category: designed to be seen moving, not to reference anything from the past. The black overlays are what make the colour wearable, framing the yellow instead of letting it flood the whole upper.
Two recipes. All black, joggers and a black tee or shell, so the shoe is the single point of colour and the black overlays tie it back. A breathable engineered upper in bright yellow with black overlays and a moulded heel counter, on a cushioned foam midsole shaped for daily wear rather than racing. The Three Stripes read as black banding across the sidewall, doing the structural job adidas gave them long before they became branding, and the contrast is what makes the shoe legible at distance and in low light. Bright yellow textile is the least forgiving upper material in this whole catalogue: dust dulls it and stains sit on the surface. The fit is standard volume rather than low, so a normal sock works.
