Released on 9 February 2024 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Maroon/Cream White/Gold Metallic. The Samba was Adi Dassler's answer to a practical problem: footballers needed to train on frozen ground without going down. He gave it a gum rubber outsole built for grip on ice and a reinforced suede panel over the toe, the T-toe, so hard leather and cold stopped chewing up feet. It picked up its name at the World Cup in Brazil, a nod to the host country's dance and music, and it has never left the adidas line since, making it the longest running shoe the brand produces and its second best seller behind the Stan Smith. The Wmns Samba OG Maroon Gold Metallic takes that blueprint somewhere richer: deep maroon leather, cream white trim, gold detailing. This is the dressiest the Samba gets without losing the football in it.
Two fits. One: cream or ecru wide leg trousers, a fitted white tee, gold hoops or a thin gold chain to answer the metallic lettering. That is the fastest way to make maroon look deliberate. Two: dark straight leg denim with a cream knit or a leather bomber for evening, where the burgundy does work a black sneaker cannot and still stays quiet. On sizing, this is a women's release and the Samba runs narrow with a tapered toe box: true to size if your feet are slim, half a size up if normal to wide, a full size up if genuinely wide. Expect three to seven wears before the leather softens through the midfoot, and know it will not stretch in width. Brush the suede after wear, keep it dry, and let the gum sole yellow.
The Samba stopped being a football shoe somewhere around the Wales Bonner run, and the doors came off after that: Humanrace with Pharrell Williams, Palace, JJJJound, Pleasures, Jason Dill. It turned into the shoe you saw everywhere, spotted on A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner and Jonah Hill, and then on everyone standing behind them in the photo. Deep burgundy with gold is a grown up colourway, the one that survives next to tailoring, and it has stayed hard to get, restocking through raffles rather than sitting on shelves. That scarcity is most of why it still reads as a choice instead of a default.
Maroon leather across the upper with a suede toecap in matching maroon, so you get two textures in one tone: leather that holds shape and shine, suede that goes soft and matte exactly where your foot flexes. That suede overlay is the original T-toe, and it still earns its place by armouring the part of the shoe that scuffs first. Cream white serrated 3-Stripes and a cream heel tab break the maroon up so the shoe reads as colour blocking rather than one flat wash. Gold metallic lettering spells SAMBA along the lateral side, answered by a gold adidas mark on the tongue tag. Underneath sits the gum rubber outsole that started all of this: low, flat, grippy on smooth floors, and it warms the whole palette.
