Adifom Q is adidas building a shoe the way a designer builds a chair: one material, one mould, one continuous form. There is no upper and sole in the traditional sense, just a body with cut through openings and the Three Stripes formed into its surface. Savannah is a warmer, more organic colourway than the shoe's futuristic shape suggests, a dry grassland tone that softens the silhouette and makes it look like an object found rather than manufactured. That tension is deliberate. adidas has a long habit of taking its most experimental products and colouring them like something ordinary, so the shape stays confrontational while the palette gives you a way to wear it without dressing around it every day.
Two ways to wear it. First, tonal and earthy: olive or khaki wide trousers, a washed sand tee, and the shoe reading as part of a natural palette rather than as a novelty. Second, hard contrast: all black technical clothing where Savannah becomes the single warm object and the shape gets to be the point. Ideal for summer, studio and home to street wear, and for anyone who takes shoes on and off constantly. Foam runs generous with no lacing to adjust, so size carefully and consider going down. Clean with mild soap and water, dry away from direct sun which fades warm tones, and keep it away from radiators and car dashboards where foam warps.
Originals, marked by the Trefoil since it was designed in 1971 and launched for the 1972 Munich Olympics, spends most of its energy on shoes born in the twentieth century. Moulded foam is the counterweight, product that could not have existed then and does not pretend otherwise. adidas has always liked engineering spectacle, from springblade's blades in place of foam to the adidas 1's microprocessor, and while those were sold on performance claims, this is sold on form. It is also honest about being polarising, which is rarer than it sounds from a company whose biggest sellers are a 1969 basketball shoe and a low profile football trainer.
Injection moulded foam gives you a shoe with no seams, no stitching and almost no weight, which changes how it behaves entirely. It flexes where the mould is thinnest, and the openings through the body are placed to control that flex as much as to ventilate. The Three Stripes are part of the moulding, a total inversion of their beginning as reinforcement stitched onto a leather upper. Savannah across the body means shadow rather than colour contrast defines the shape, so the sculpture is easier to read than on a two tone pair. Underfoot the foam is soft and warm, comfortable for short distances, less suited to long days on hard pavement where a structured midsole earns its place.
