adidas took a different route to the plated racer than most of the industry. Rather than one continuous carbon sheet, adizero uses carbon rods embedded in a thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsole, so the shoe stiffens the toe off without locking the forefoot into a single hinge, and the foot keeps some ability to splay across the metatarsals. The upper is minimal by design, thin and unlined, since anything above the midsole is weight without benefit. Outsole rubber is applied only where a racing footstrike lands. In practice: the shoe feels aggressive under the forefoot, unstable at walking pace, and progressively better as you speed up. Blue uppers on race shoes stain from track and road spray, so clean gently.
