Designed by Bruce Kilgore and released on 28 April 2023 as part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Pine Green/White/White. The Air Force 1 has been a staple of mainstream American dress since the 1980s, which is exactly why handing it to Off-White was a provocation rather than a courtesy. You cannot deconstruct a shoe nobody recognises. The Mid takes the argument further than the Low, because the strap across the ankle is the most distinctive thing about the silhouette and the hardest to justify, so any reworking has to deal with it head on. Pine Green pushes the shoe out of its default white and into a deep, saturated colour that behaves more like outerwear than footwear, and it is the reason this pair reads as a garment rather than a basketball reissue.
Recipe one: black cargo trousers with the hem sitting on the strap, an olive hooded layer and nothing else in a competing colour, so the green reads as intentional rather than accidental. Recipe two: light grey sweat shorts and a white tee in summer, where the deep green anchors an otherwise pale fit and the mid cut gives the leg a visible break. Air Force 1s run large for most feet, so consider going down half a size. Keep them off wet streets, since salt marks pale stitching permanently. Clean with a soft brush and a mild solution, never a machine, and re lace rather than yanking the strap when the tongue shifts.
Nike's status in urban and hip hop fashion was built through basketball, following the 1984 Michael Jordan signing and the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising, and the Air Force 1 sat at the centre of that shift alongside Air Jordans and Air Max models. By the time Off-White arrived, the shoe had spent decades as the default, which made taking it apart a legitimate design statement instead of vandalism. That is the whole logic of the collaboration era: the value comes from the recognition the original already earned. A green Mid works because the audience knows precisely what a white Low looks like and can measure the distance.
Underneath the collaboration language, this is still an Air Force 1 Mid: a substantial upper, a broad and flat outsole, and Nike Air, the pressurised gas unit sealed in the midsole, carrying the cushioning. The mid cut adds the ankle strap, which changes the fit as much as the look, since fastening it tight locks the heel and leaving it loose lets the collar flare open. Pine Green is a dark, deep shade that hides scuffing better than white but shows dust and salt more clearly. Treat any exposed foam or contrast stitching as a wear point, and clean around it with a brush rather than working directly over it.
