Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 17 May 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 3 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Black/Sport Royal/Challenge Red/Pale Vanilla/College Grey. City editions are the brand admitting that its audience is no longer in one country, and Seoul has been one of the most demanding of those audiences for a decade. Building it on the Air Jordan 3 is a specific choice: the III is the model Tinker Hatfield took over after Peter Moore's original, the one that introduced elephant print and moved the Jumpman onto the tongue, and it is the first shoe in the line that was designed as a design object rather than as equipment. A 2.0 means the city has been given a second interpretation, which very few have. That is a reasonable measure of how much of the Jordan market now sits outside the United States.
Special edition 3s deserve plain clothes and dry days. Recipe one: black wide leg trousers, a grey sweatshirt and a black bomber, letting the elephant print and the pair's specific detailing carry all the visual interest. Recipe two: raw denim, a white tee and a leather jacket, the fit that has always suited this silhouette because the shoe already has enough going on. Grey or black socks. The mid collar wants a hem that breaks just above it rather than stacking over it. Wear them on dry days only, brush the print gently and check midsole condition before hard wear on any older pair, since polyurethane degrades by hydrolysis with age.
The 3 is the model that turned Air Jordan from a signature shoe into a series with its own language, and elephant print now signals the brand without a Jumpman present anywhere. That transferability is exactly what a city edition trades on: a pattern recognisable in Seoul, Tokyo or London without a word of explanation. Jordan Brand has been a Nike division since 1997 and by 2022 generated about 5.1 billion dollars, much of it from markets that never watched the original games. Special editions like this are how the brand converts a basketball inheritance into a local one.
The 3's architecture is the constant here: a leather upper with elephant print panels at toe and heel, a padded mid height collar and the Jumpman on the tongue, over a platform built around Nike Air, which entered the line from the Air Jordan II. City editions typically carry their own material mix and applied detailing on top of that base, so inspect what is specific to this pair rather than assuming a standard retro. The elephant print is the part to protect: it is a printed material, so a soft dry brush is the right tool and heavy wet cleaning will flatten its contrast. Keep the midsole clean and store the pair out of direct sun.
