Designed by Peter Moore and released on 6 June 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/White/Phantom/Mint Foam. The Swoosh that sits on this shoe was drawn by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student, and first used on 18 June 1971 before it was registered as a trademark in January 1974. It is the most recognisable mark Nike owns, and on a Dunk Low it is also the largest single design element, which is why colourway decisions here live or die on how that panel is treated. Mint Foam, White and Phantom is the soft option: a pale green side panel against off white leather, with Phantom, a warm bone grey, doing the work of stopping the pair from looking clinical. The GS marking means this is the grade school build, sized for smaller feet and priced accordingly, which has turned it into one of the more accessible ways into a shape adults compete over.
Two ways to wear it. Clean and bright: light wash denim, a white tee or a cream hoodie, ankle socks, letting the mint read as a hint rather than a statement. Or lean into the pastel with grey sweat shorts and a heather grey crew, where Phantom on the shoe ties directly to the grey above and the mint becomes the single accent. It suits school runs, weekends, travel days and casual outings rather than anything formal. Size up half if you are between GS and adult sizing since the grade school last is cut narrower. Care is the real commitment with pale leather: wipe after every few wears, treat scuffs on the white immediately before they set, and keep it away from red mud and monsoon puddles.
Nike's basketball silhouettes became status objects in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s onward, then resurfaced through the 1990s and 2000s as casual and athleisure staples. The Dunk is the clearest example of that second life: a court shoe that stopped being about the court. Pastel colourways are the part of the story that belongs to the present, taking a shape associated with team loyalty and rendering it in shades that signal nothing except taste. GS releases matter culturally too, because they are how the shape reaches people before they can afford the adult release. This is the entry point, not the consolation prize, and the colourway is genuinely one of the better soft palettes the silhouette has carried.
Leather panelled upper on a rubber cupsole, with the colour split running along the Swoosh, the toe overlay, the eyestay and the heel tab. Mint Foam is a low saturation pastel, so it depends on clean edges between panels to stay sharp; this is a colourway that rewards keeping the white honest. The GS build carries the same panelled construction as the adult version with proportionally scaled tooling, so the fit runs narrower through the forefoot than the men's sizing does. Padded collar, flat woven laces, and a foam sockliner make it comfortable straight out of the box. Nike's waffle derived tread pattern under the forefoot gives dependable grip on tile and concrete, which is the surface this shoe actually lives on.
