Culture Note™

Nike signed Chicago Bulls rookie Michael Jordan on 26 October 1984, a six year deal worth 2.5 million dollars with a royalty attached, roughly three times what any other player in the league was earning. Peter Moore, working with Bruce Kilgore, drew the shoe that followed, and the public got it on 1 April 1985. The Mid is the version of that silhouette built for daily wear rather than the archive, and this Black White Iron Grey run reads the original Chicago logic in monochrome. Black covers the toe, eyestay and collar, white takes the quarter panel, and iron grey lands on the Swoosh so the shape stays legible without shouting. It is the Air Jordan 1 stripped back to its geometry, which is a large part of why the model outlived the court and became a street shoe.
