Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 11 November 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 13 line. This release has a leather upper in Barley Green/Black. Singles' Day is a Chinese commercial event, and a Jordan built for it says something plain about where the brand's growth now comes from. This is the 13 in its Low form, which strips the model's tall collar back and turns a late signature era basketball shoe into something you can wear all day. By the time the 13 arrived, the line had already become a design series with its own vocabulary under Tinker Hatfield, who took over from the third model and stopped the shoe being a yearly basketball release. The Low is the version of the 13 that people who never played in one actually wear.
Recipe one: black tapered trousers with a cropped hem, a heavy black tee, and a bomber, letting the sculpted profile of the Low be the shape in the outfit. Recipe two: mid wash straight jeans stacked slightly over the collar, a hooded sweat, and a canvas jacket, which softens the shoe's bulk. Low crew socks, since anything tall fights the cut down collar. Fit true to size with a snug heel. Special edition finishes vary panel to panel, so clean gently with mild soap and a soft cloth, test any cleaner on a hidden area first, and store them boxed rather than stacked to avoid pressure marks.
A release named for a shopping event is the far end of a story that began with Nike targeting about 3 million dollars in sales over three years and getting a shoe that passed 150 million. Jordan Brand became a standalone Nike division in 1997 and by 2022 was generating about 5.1 billion dollars a year, with a reported 150 to 256 million going back to Jordan under the royalty clause from that first contract. Regional and event specific releases are how a business that size keeps growing, and they are also how the brand tests colourways it would never risk on a general retro.
Cutting a high model down to a Low changes the shoe's job. You lose the ankle containment the original build was engineered around and you gain a shoe that is easy to get into and easy to wear with a trouser hem. The 13's shape is sculpted rather than panelled flat, with a rounded, organic profile that sets it apart from the boxier early models, so it looks heavier than it wears. Later models in the line adopted carbon fibre shank plates for torsional stiffness, part of the same performance push that produced this generation. Lace it fully anyway, since a Low with slack laces on a sculpted last lets the heel travel.
