Culture Note™

Peacoat and Guava is the Mexico 66 taking a risk. Peacoat is the deep marine navy the brand uses across the line, and Guava is a warm coral pink that sits opposite it on the colour wheel, so the crossed Tiger Stripes stop being a logo and start being a colour clash. The silhouette was built in 1966 as Onitsuka's flagship answer to Adidas and Puma, released two years before the 1968 Mexico City Games and the first shoe to carry the stripe device. Navy with coral is a decision only a fashion label makes, and it dates the shoe to the modern era of the brand rather than to the archive.
