The Mexico 66 is a line of shoes released by Onitsuka Tiger in 1966, and it remains the design most closely tied to the brand's early identity. Retail accounts trace its inspiration to training shoes that originally debuted at the Mexico Games in 1966, which is where the name comes from. It was conceived as a low, narrow running shoe of its era, long before running silhouettes became everyday wear, and its 1960s origins are still legible in the details that carried into later reissues: the slim profile, the simple stitching, and the narrow heel flap that retail descriptions keep pointing back to.
