The line traces to Bill Bowerman, the University of Oregon track coach who started Blue Ribbon Sports with Phil Knight in 1964 because he believed American runners deserved lighter shoes than the domestic market offered, and who later poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron to get the tread he wanted. The colourway wants cool metals, not gold. Second recipe: black nylon technical shorts, an oversized grey heather tee and a light windbreaker, which lets the Court Blue read as the only saturated thing you are wearing. Nike learned early, through Bowerman's waffle experiments and everything the Beaverton labs did after, that a running upper is a set of panels each doing one job, holding the midfoot, opening the forefoot, reinforcing the heel. When that logic is carried onto a lifestyle shoe, you get a foot that stays locked without the shoe feeling stiff. The silver overlays sit where a runner would put support, so the shine has structure behind it. Expect an everyday shoe with athletic bones rather than a soft slipper.
