The Vomero has been Nike's plush daily trainer for a long time, the shoe you reach for when your legs are wrecked rather than when you are chasing a personal best. Nike eventually split the line into three tiers: the Vomero 18 on a ZoomX and ReactX blend, the Vomero Plus on full ZoomX, and this one, the Premium, sitting on top with the tallest midsole of the lot. Black Anthracite, style code HQ2050-001, is the version that turned the model into a street shoe as much as a running one. The official colourway reads Black, Anthracite, Volt and Iron Grey, and the volt only appears where it earns attention: the branding and the exposed Air Zoom windows underfoot. Oversized RUN graphics stretch across the midfoot, reflective detailing catches headlights, and it retails at 230 dollars.
Two ways to use it. As an actual runner, this is a recovery and long-easy-day shoe: the morning after a hard session or a race, the days your calves are cooked, or steady base miles where you want protection rather than ground feel. It is not a speedwork shoe and it feels clumsy on uneven ground. As a fit, black cargos or wide tech trousers with a black shell jacket keeps everything tonal and lets the volt do all the work, or grey sweats with an oversized hoodie for the airport-to-cafe version. Sizing is true to size with a fairly narrow toebox, so wide feet should try a pair on first. Care is easy: wipe the mesh down, air it out after every run because that padded collar traps heat, and never machine dry a foam midsole.
The Vomero Premium is where the max-cushion era stopped pretending it was only about running. Reviewers argue openly about whether this is a training shoe or a lifestyle object, and one called it the end point of the whole tall-stack cycle. That argument is exactly why it works on the street: it is a genuine 55 mm technical trainer that happens to look like the chunky silhouette everyone already wants. The Black Anthracite colourway is the one that settles the debate, because blacking out the upper kills the running-shoe loudness and leaves you with pure volume plus volt flashes. Running culture and streetwear finally overlap properly here, and this is the pair people buy when they want both without owning two separate shoes.
Full-length ZoomX is the base, Nike's softest foam, lab-measured at 34.5 on the durometer, which is why the first step feels like the floor quietly gave way. Sitting inside it are Air Zoom units at both the heel and the forefoot, two pressurised bags per zone, so the softness hands energy back instead of just swallowing your stride. Nike lists the stack at around 55 mm at the heel and 45 mm at the forefoot on a 10 mm drop, which is roughly as much shoe as currently exists. The upper is engineered mesh with heavy padding through the collar and heel, secure without hot spots, though it runs warm. Underfoot, full rubber coverage in square waffle lugs, a nod to Bill Bowerman, grips wet pavement and resists shredding.
