Released on 18 July 2024 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Core White/Team Victory Red/Night Indigo. White with victory red stripes and an indigo heel is the Samba running three colours at once, which is more than this silhouette usually carries. Victory red is a true, slightly blue leaning red rather than an orange one, and setting it against a deep indigo at the back gives the shoe a primary colour energy that most Samba releases avoid. adidas can do this because the shape absorbs decoration without losing itself: a low flat sole, a suede toe, three stripes down the side. Add colour and it becomes a different shoe, take colour away and it goes back to being the plainest thing in the range.
Three colours means everything else stays quiet. Light wash straight jeans with a plain white tee lets the red and indigo read cleanly, or go tonal on top with a navy crewneck and grey trousers so the red is the only warm note. Skip patterned clothing entirely with this one. The shape runs long and narrow, so most people take a half size down. Spray the suede toe before first wear, clean with a barely damp cloth rather than a wet one, and treat the red and indigo panels gently since scrubbing wet dye across white leather is how these pairs get ruined.
The single most important moment in adidas' cultural history was not paid for. Run-DMC released My Adidas on 29 May 1986, and that July at Madison Square Garden, with adidas executive Angelo Anastasio in the crowd at co-manager Lyor Cohen's invitation, the group told thousands of people to hold up their shoes. The endorsement that followed was the first between a musical act and an athletic company, and Questlove has called it hip hop's tipping point. Bold, high contrast colourways on Originals silhouettes are downstream of that era, when adidas learned its shoes were already being styled without it.
Leather across the white base with a suede overlay at the toe, red Three Stripes stitched along the quarter and indigo carried on the heel patch, over a low flat outsole. Those stripes are reinforcement first: adidas sewed them onto uppers as structure before anyone treated them as a logo, and on a shoe with this little material they still hold the panel together. There is no cushioning technology underfoot, which keeps the stance low and the ground feel high. A white base with two saturated trims is the hardest combination to keep clean, because any wet cleaning risks lifting red or indigo dye into the white leather beside it.
