Released on 31 March 2024 and part of Nike's Vomero 17 line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Fire Red/Platinum Tint/Black. White with Fire Red is the oldest colour idea Nike has: a clean upper cut by a single hot accent, the arrangement that made the Swoosh legible from across a stadium after it was first used on 18 June 1971. On the Vomero 17 it turns a maximal daily trainer into something with a bit of theatre, which the category badly needs. Most cushioned trainers are designed to be invisible. This one is not, and that suits a shoe you will wear more often than any race day pair you own. Nike has always understood that people run better in kit they actually want to put on.
Two uses. One, training: daily kilometres, easy runs and long efforts, paired with white technical socks so the whole setup stays clean and coordinated. Two, casual: black joggers or straight denim, a white tee, a red or grey cap picking up the accent. Buy with a thumbnail of toe space, since feet swell over distance. White foam and mesh need routine care: rinse after dusty runs, use a soft brush and mild soap on the upper, clean the midsole edge separately with a foam cleaner, dry in shade with insoles removed, and never machine wash or tumble dry. Retire them when the outsole tread has smoothed out at the forefoot.
Nike's advertising has done as much for its shoes as its engineering, from the Wieden and Kennedy partnership that began in 1976 to films like the 2005 Touch of Gold spot featuring Ronaldinho, which people rewatched for years without being sold anything specific. Bright and simple colour blocking works the same way: it makes a product memorable before you know a thing about it. That instinct also explains how Nike models moved from sport into mainstream youth dress across the 1980s and 1990s. Even a training shoe benefits from being recognisable, because recognisable is what gets a shoe worn on rest days too.
Everything in a high cushion neutral trainer serves repetition: a deep foam platform to blunt impact, midfoot structure so that softness does not become instability, and an upper engineered to stay comfortable when your feet expand in the heat. Nike's fabric work in this area runs through Dri-FIT, its moisture wicking platform, and its upper geometry descends from Flywire, cables holding the foot so less material is needed around it. A white upper with a bright accent is the least practical option for Indian roads and the best looking one, so accept the trade and rinse the shoe after dusty or wet runs.
