Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Pink Salt/Guava Ice. Pink Salt is a women's Low, and it belongs to the part of the line that grew after the shoe stopped being about one player's feet. Nike bought a rookie's identity in October 1984 because it was losing basketball to Converse and adidas, and expected roughly 3 million dollars in sales over three years. The Air Jordan 1 sold out its first 50,000 pairs and passed 150 million dollars instead. That surplus is why the model is still cut, coloured and lasted for people who never watched Jordan play. Peter Moore's panels stay exactly where he put them, low at the ankle, with a soft pink wash across the quarter and Swoosh replacing the Chicago palette completely.
Two ways in. Soft and washed: cream or ecru wide leg trousers, a white ribbed tank, gold jewellery, letting the pink read as a neutral. Or contrast it: black straight jeans with a black tee so the shoe is the only warm thing in the outfit. Pink Salt sits best with a cropped or ankle length hem, since the low collar is the shape you want visible. Sizing runs close to true, and the women's last holds the heel more securely than the men's cut. Clean every few wears with a soft brush and a mild cleaner, protect with a spray before first wear, and store away from sunlight so the pink does not shift tone.
Jordan Brand's roster is not only men's basketball. Maya Moore and Jordin Canada are signed WNBA athletes, and the brand also sits under NFL, MLB and college programmes, which is how a house built on one player's silhouette became a wardrobe rather than a jersey. The cultural weight underneath is still the original collision of basketball and hip hop, the Spike Lee directed advertising with Lee playing Mars Blackmon, and the fact that this shoe turned sneaker collecting into a mass activity anchoring a resale market valued around 2 billion dollars. Pink Salt trades none of that away, it simply takes the shape somewhere the 1985 colour rules would never have allowed.
Leather upper, low collar, rubber cupsole, and a pale pink that will tell the truth about how you wear your shoes. Light colourways on the Air Jordan 1 are a commitment: the toe box creases where the foot flexes and that crease catches dirt faster than a dark panel hides it.
