Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 22 July 2025 as part of Nike's Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a denim upper in Worn Blue/Gum Light Brown/Sail/White. Nike signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and the partnership became a business of its own, with Spike Lee directing the Mars Blackmon advertising that made the Air Jordan the shoe of basketball and, through basketball, of hip hop. The Air Jordan 1 is where that story starts, and the Low SE is the version that stopped pretending to be a basketball shoe at all. This women's pair goes further by dropping the leather brief entirely for denim in a worn blue, a fabric chosen because it fades, creases and ages on your foot. It is the Jordan 1 read as a garment rather than as equipment, built for the wardrobe the shoe ended up living in.
Utility
First fit: double denim done properly, a darker indigo trouser or a straight jean with a contrasting wash so the worn blue on the foot sits lighter than the leg, plus a cream knit to warm the whole thing. Second: white or ecru wide-leg cotton with a navy tee, letting the shoe be the only texture in play. The low cut sits under a cropped hem cleanly, so it works with anything that breaks above the ankle. The Air Jordan line turned a basketball shoe into a cultural marker, and from the 1980s onward Nike became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion with Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models becoming staples of mainstream American youth dress. Those shoes then reappeared through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure dressing, which is the exact register a denim Jordan 1 Low is written in. Construction
Denim is the whole argument here. The low cut removes the ankle collar, which changes how the shoe sits under a hem and makes the lacing the main structural element across the midfoot. Built on a women's last, it runs narrower through the heel and forefoot than the men's cut. Expect a flat, court style footprint underfoot, in the tradition of Nike outsoles that trace back to Bowerman's waffle iron and his hunt for lighter, grippier traction.
