Designed by Peter Moore and released on 20 August 2025 as part of Nike's Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Phantom/White. Phantom Iridescent takes the Air Jordan 1 Mid into a soft off white with a shifting, oil slick finish, which is about as far from a 1985 team colourway as the model gets. The Air Jordan 1 exists because Nike signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and the partnership grew into a brand of its own. It is also the subject of the most repeated piece of misinformation in sneaker history: the shoe cited under the NBA's uniform rule was the Nike Air Ship, not the Air Jordan 1, and Nike paid the fines and built a campaign on the story. This women's Mid inherits all of that history and none of the aggression.
Iridescence is the entire feature, so keep everything else matte. Wear it with black tailored trousers and a plain white shirt, letting the shifting finish be the only shine in the outfit. For an easier version, pair with grey sweatpants and a cream hoodie so the off white base reads as tonal and the iridescence only shows when you move. Avoid metallic bags or jewellery, which compete with it. Everyday wear rather than sport, slightly narrow on a women's last. Care is the catch: clean with a barely damp soft cloth, never use solvents or abrasive sponges on a coated panel, and store out of direct sunlight, which dulls iridescent finishes.
The 1984 Jordan signing and the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising made Nike the shoe of basketball, and through basketball the Air Jordan became a status marker in urban and hip hop fashion, then a fixture in mainstream American youth dress and later in 1990s and 2000s casual style. Every women's Air Jordan 1 Mid is trading on that. An iridescent finish is a deliberate move away from team heritage toward something purely decorative, which some people will read as a dilution and others as the natural end point of a shoe that stopped being sportswear decades ago.
The base is a phantom toned upper, a warm off white rather than a bright one, with the iridescent treatment applied to selected panels so the colour shifts as the light and angle change. That finish is a surface layer, which is worth knowing, because iridescent coatings scuff and crease differently from plain leather and cannot be scrubbed back. The Mid collar covers the ankle bone and is padded, and underneath sits a foam midsole with Nike Air cushioning sealed inside and a rubber outsole with the model's pivot pattern. The ride is firm and flat. This row carries no style code, so treat exact panel material as unconfirmed. On a women's last the Mid runs slightly narrow.
