Designed by Peter Moore and released on 16 April 2021 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Green Glow/White. Nike acquired the virtual sneaker studio RTFKT in December 2021 and worked with the artist Takashi Murakami on a digital piece the following year, which tells you where the company thinks colour lives now: on screens, at full saturation, unbothered by what a dye can physically achieve. Green Glow is that instinct applied to leather. It is a high voltage, almost fluorescent green blocked against white on a women's Dunk Low, a shade that looks like it was picked in software rather than mixed in a lab. The Dunk takes it because the silhouette has no atmosphere of its own to protect.
A colour this loud needs a plain frame. Wear it with black straight leg denim, a white tee and a black jacket, letting the green be the only saturated thing in the entire outfit. The softer option: grey sweat trousers, a white hoodie and silver jewellery, where the green functions as a single bright punctuation mark at the floor. Do not add a second bright colour, and avoid patterns altogether. Length is true to size on the women's Dunk, though the toe box is tight, so broad feet should take half a size up. Protect the white panels before wear one, keep the pair out of direct sunlight, and clean promptly so the contrast stays sharp.
Nike's court shoes moved from basketball into hip hop and urban fashion as status objects from the 1980s, then into everyday American youth dress, then back through the casual and athleisure revival of the 1990s and 2000s, and the Dunk was carried along each time without ever being the centrepiece. That anonymity became its asset. A hyper saturated green women's makeup is what that freedom looks like at the far end: no athlete attached, no anniversary, no story except the colour, released because a shade that bright sells itself on a phone screen and holds up in person.
Fluorescent colours are difficult to build. They need a light base underneath to stay bright, and they need hard edges, which is why a panelled shoe suits them and a moulded one does not. The Dunk supplies both: separate stitched leather sections, a white base, and a Swoosh running the length of the quarter big enough to carry the green at full strength. Under it is the outsole tradition Bowerman started with rubber and a waffle iron, the company's first genuine engineering. Bright greens fade faster than almost any other pigment, so keep the pair out of prolonged sun, clean with mild soap and a soft brush, and never use solvent, which lifts fluorescent dye immediately.
