Designed by Kanye West and released on 11 March 2022 as part of the Yeezy Foam Runner line. This release has a eva upper in Stone Sage/Stone Sage/Stone Sage. The Foam Runner landed on 26 June 2020 and did something no Yeezy had done before: it deleted the sneaker entirely. No laces, no panels, no stitched collar, just one moulded shape with a cutaway upper. Stone Sage sits inside the naming convention the line has used since Pirate Black and Oxford Tan, colours pulled from terrain and raw material rather than a seasonal fashion palette. The grey green tone reads like weathered lichen or dry riverbed stone, deliberately washed out so the outline does all the talking. That is the anti branding logic the label built its footwear on: most adidas era Yeezy models carry no visible logo at all, so recognition has to come from silhouette and colourway alone, and the Foam Runner pushed that idea to its limit.
Stone Sage is a neutral that behaves like an olive, so it slots into anything earth toned. Recipe one: wide leg cargo trousers in stone or sand, a heavyweight cream tee, and a washed olive overshirt, letting the shoe read as part of the same dust palette. Recipe two: black tapered sweatpants with the hem stacked just above the opening, plus a boxy grey hoodie, where the sage becomes the only colour in the fit. Wear it barefoot for the intended sock like grip, or with a thin ribbed sock for cooler days. Sizing runs snug and there is no give, so size up if you have a high instep. Clean it with lukewarm water and a soft brush, and keep it out of direct sun and off radiators, since heat can warp moulded foam permanently.
The Foam Runner is the model that carried Yeezy out of sneaker culture and into general fashion, and it was imitated across the mass market faster than anything else the label made. It also arrived at the peak of the drop economy the brand had built: limited releases, queue culture, bot buying and a resale market that treated release day as a cultural event. That machine stopped when adidas ended the partnership on 25 October 2022, calling recent comments and actions by founder Kanye West unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. Pairs on shelves since then have come from remaining stock and the resale market, not from an ongoing line, which is worth knowing before you treat Stone Sage as restockable.
This is injection moulded one piece construction, with the upper, footbed and outsole formed as a single body of EVA style foam rather than assembled from cut parts. Foam Runners were made partly from algae derived foam, which was the first time the line put a material story ahead of a performance one. The clawed perforations through the toe and quarter are structural as much as visual, letting the shape flex where a normal upper would have seams. There is nothing to break in and nothing to lace, so fit is decided by the moulded footbed and the width of the opening. Expect a firm, slightly springy tread underfoot and a shoe that dries out fast after a rinse.
