Released on 5 February 2026 and part of the Adistar XLG 2.0 line. This release has the Grey/Silver Metallic/Grey colourway. Adistar XLG 2.0 is the running archive inflated on purpose. It takes the Adistar name, which adidas has attached to serious distance shoes, and rebuilds it as an oversized lifestyle silhouette with an exaggerated sole and a layered upper, then updates that with a second version. Grey with silver metallic accents is the most technical-looking way to finish it, a cool neutral body broken by reflective-adjacent shine rather than colour. adidas has a long history of making running shoes that look like equipment first, from springblade's splayed blades to the adidas 1 and its microprocessor pitch in 2005.
Grey and silver reads technical, so dress it that way. First recipe: black cropped or tapered technical trousers with a grey shell, a full cool-toned build where the metallic detail is the only shine. Second: wide black denim with a white tee, where the bulk balances a loose leg and the grey keeps the outfit from looking heavy. These are cushioned, wide and best for walking, travel and standing rather than running. Size true with a medium sock. Brush the mesh often since grey shows dust, keep the metallic panels away from abrasives, and avoid heat entirely.
adidas keeps two archives alive at once. One holds the Samba, the Superstar and the Stan Smith, the shoes that became the base layer of European terrace and casual dressing and made Originals a lifestyle line. The other holds the running experiments, the shapes that got rediscovered because they looked like nothing else. The XLG family belongs to the second, an argument that the brand's most interesting silhouettes are the ones it built for performance and then let go of. adidas has entered culture twice, through sport and through music it never paid for, and its running archive keeps supplying material for both.
A layered mesh and synthetic upper on an oversized moulded midsole, with the Three Stripes worked into the panelling as structure rather than as applied branding. The bulk is the design, so the shoe carries visual weight without behaving like a competition runner. Grey mesh greys further with time, and metallic accents scratch rather than stain, so use a soft brush dry, a barely damp cloth on the synthetic panels and nothing abrasive anywhere near the silver. Keep them away from heat and never machine wash, since layered bonded uppers and oversized midsoles both fail at the glue line first. Clear grit from the sole recesses regularly.
