The EXO Green Evo SL is a saturated single colour applied to a racing shape, and single colour is how the Adizero line looks most like equipment rather than like fashion. The Evo SL is the everyday member of that family, built to give you the competition geometry adidas develops for its racers without the price or the fragility of a race day shoe. The lineage is the oldest thing in the company: Adolf Dassler began in Herzogenaurach making purpose built shoes for individual athletic events, watching athletes instead of guessing, and Adizero is the modern name for that work. A green so bright it names itself is doing what a racing shoe has always done, making the wearer visible.
A loud green needs a quiet outfit. Wear it with black shorts and a black or white technical top if you are running, so the shoe is the only signal, or with charcoal trousers and a grey crew if you are wearing it on a street, keeping every other piece neutral. Never add a second bright colour. On the run, use it for tempo work and steady long efforts where the rocker pays off, and keep easy recovery miles in a softer shoe. Brush the mesh dry rather than washing it, air dry away from heat, and accept that a bright upper will show every mark it collects.
adidas has kept a genuine foothold in competition since the Dassler brothers put handmade spikes on Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the Adizero programme is where that credibility now lives. The interesting modern development is that the credibility travels: a shoe designed for people chasing a time gets bought in bulk by people who like how seriously it looks at the ground. That is the same movement that turned seventies adidas running shoes into the base layer of European casual dressing, only compressed into a much shorter cycle.
The Evo SL runs a simpler single foam midsole rather than the thermoplastic polyester elastomer with embedded carbon rods that adidas uses in its top level Adizero racers, and that swap is what makes it suitable for daily mileage instead of being saved for a start line. What carries over is the shape: a high forefoot stack, a strong rocker that tips you forward, a cut away heel and an upper thin enough to see light through. On a single saturated green, that thin upper shows its weave and its ventilation zones as texture, so the shoe reads technical rather than flat. Expect firm, springy and light rather than plush.
