Tactile Vapour Green with Magic Grey Metallic is a colourway written in adidas's internal language, where colours get named like materials rather than shades. On the Adizero Evo SL it produces the most unusual version of this shoe: a muted, almost dusty green body with a metallic grey wash through the branding and sole detailing. The adizero line is the company's competition programme, descended from the habit Adolf Dassler built in Herzogenaurach of designing around a single athletic job. The Evo SL is that thinking loosened for general wear. This particular palette pushes it further from the track, because nothing about soft green and metal grey looks like race kit.
Two recipes. Washed olive or stone chinos with a cream knit, letting the green sit inside a warm neutral palette rather than fighting it. Or grey technical trousers and a black shell, where the metallic detailing links the shoe to the hardware on the jacket. Good for city walking, travel and shoulder-season weather; less good for heavy rain given the light textile. Size to your usual running length with a little toe room. Brush dry dirt off before it sets, clean with cold water and a soft cloth, and dry away from direct heat so the metallic finish does not lift.
Colour is how adidas separates a running shoe from a fashion object without changing the mould, and this is a fashion-object palette. The company learned early that its product gets adopted for reasons it does not control, most famously when hip hop took the Superstar and turned an on-court shoe into a cultural uniform without any commercial arrangement at all. Muted green with metallic grey is aimed squarely at the people who buy running silhouettes for the way they photograph. It is the least athletic-looking version of an athletic shoe in the range.
A light engineered upper with almost no structural overlays, a slim collar and a shaped foam midsole with a forefoot rocker. The metallic treatment sits on the Three Stripes and heel detailing, which is where adidas has always put its identifying line, originally as stitched reinforcement holding the upper together. A pale green textile is more forgiving than white but will still show water marks, so treat rain as the enemy. The fit is low-volume and close, built for a thin sock and a snug lace rather than layering. Because the midsole is shaped rather than flat, the shoe wants a rolling gait; give it a few wears before deciding how it feels.
