Released on 15 June 2025 and part of the Adizero SL2 line. This release has a mesh upper in Cloud White/Core Black/Lucid Red. Adizero SL2 is the workhorse end of adidas's racing family, the shoe that carries the adizero name into daily mileage rather than into a start pen. That split matters, because the competitive end of the line runs a thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsole with embedded carbon rods, and the daily end deliberately does not. What it borrows is the obsession with weight that adizero exists to serve, an obsession that traces straight back to Adolf Dassler building event specific shoes by hand in Herzogenaurach. White with black and Lucid Red is a training palette rather than a race one: a bright base you can see in traffic, a dark sole that hides road wear, and a saturated red accent that keeps the shoe from reading as generic.
Utility
Recipe one, its actual job: easy and steady runs of any distance in a technical tee and shorts, with a thin running sock and the laces locked through the top eyelet, because a light upper needs the heel held. Recipe two, off duty: black joggers with a grey hoodie, where the white upper and red accent keep a plain outfit from going flat. Size true with a thumbnail of toe room, since mesh will not stretch to make space later. Rotate two pairs if you run most days, which extends midsole life far more than any cleaning routine. adidas running is not a line extension, it is the original company. The brothers persuaded sprinter Jesse Owens to wear their handmade spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, which put German handmade athletic shoes in front of the world, and the technical thread has been continuous since. Boost, developed with German chemical company BASF and launched in adidas running in 2013, is the material that defined the modern era, and adizero is the line that answers to the clock. Daily trainers are where the majority of running actually happens, and among Indian club runners the SL type shoe is the one that logs the volume while a super shoe sits in the box waiting for race day.
Construction
The point of an SL is that it is light without being fragile. That means an engineered mesh upper with thin overlays, a slim padded collar and tongue, and a foam midsole tuned to survive repeated daily impact rather than to deliver a single fast race. Outsole rubber covers more of the footprint than on a racing shoe, because a daily trainer has to last hundreds of kilometres on abrasive road surfaces. The Three Stripes appear as support bands rather than as applied graphics, which is how adidas has treated the mark since buying it from Karhu Sports in 1952. White across the upper with black underfoot and Lucid Red on branding gives the shoe visual speed without adding weight.
