Released on 23 May 2023 and part of adidas's Gazelle line. This release has a suede upper in Bliss Pink/Core Black/Collegiate Purple. Bliss Pink with purple is the Gazelle Indoor pushed as far from its court brief as the shape allows. The silhouette was drawn for indoor sport, slim and flat with a grippy sole, and a soft pink upper with purple stripes turns that austerity into something almost decorative. adidas has a long record of letting outside voices take its shapes somewhere unexpected, from Stella McCartney's work with the brand since 2004 to designers including Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, and colour experiments on the archive belong to that same permissive instinct. This is a women's pair, and the palette is the entire proposition.
Two recipes. Cream or white wide trousers with a grey knit, so the pink is the only colour and the purple stripes read as a detail rather than a second statement. Or black jeans with a black tee, using the shoe as the single point of softness in a hard outfit. Strictly a dry-weather, daytime, pavement shoe. Size true and half up if your foot is wide, since the Indoor last is slim. Spray with suede protector before wearing at all, brush gently against the nap, never use water on pale suede, and store it out of sunlight to stop the pink shifting tone.
Colour-led reworkings of archive silhouettes are how adidas Originals kept a decades-old catalogue current, and the Indoor family in particular became the place where those experiments landed because the shape is plain enough to take anything. Pink and purple sits in the softest corner of that, a pairing that reads as fashion first and sport a distant second. It is the version of the Gazelle bought for how it looks with a specific wardrobe rather than for the archive it comes from. That said, it is not a costume shoe. The proportions stay as disciplined as any other Gazelle Indoor, which is what stops a pastel suede low top from reading as novelty.
A suede upper in pale pink with purple stitched Three Stripes, a leather heel tab, a slim collar and a low flat rubber outsole. The stripes are stitched through rather than applied, the structural role adidas gave them before they became a marketing asset, and here the contrast makes them the strongest graphic on the shoe. Pale pink suede is the most demanding surface in this whole range: it marks with a touch, absorbs water instantly and never returns to new. Underfoot the shoe is thin and flat, so it reads slim in profile and sits neatly under a cropped hem. No break-in needed.
