Released on 15 June 2023 and part of adidas's Gazelle line. This release has a suede upper in Halo Blush/Cloud White/Core Black. The Gazelle is adidas at its most stripped: a suede training shoe with the Three Stripes running the full flank and a printed logo on the quarter, no shell toe, no drama, just the shape. Halo Blush puts it in a pale dusty pink that sits closer to skin than to candy, a colour that only works on suede because the nap softens it. This is the women's cut, and the tonal treatment follows the logic adidas Originals has used since the Trefoil arrived in 1971: keep the architecture fixed, move the whole conversation into colour and material. Halo Blush is a colour you notice second, after the silhouette has already registered.
Pale pink suede is a neutral if you treat it as one. Recipe one: straight leg mid blue denim and a white tee, where Halo Blush works exactly like off white but warmer, softening the whole outfit without adding a colour story. Recipe two: full tonal, oatmeal trousers with a cream knit, so the shoe becomes the deepest tone in a light stack. Best for daytime, offices with a relaxed code, and travel. The Gazelle runs narrow and low volume, so size up half if you have a wide foot or wear thick socks. Protect the suede before first wear, brush the nap in one direction, and never put water on pale suede: use a dry sponge and a suede eraser instead.
adidas Originals earned its position by being adopted rather than pushed. The Superstar was taken up by hip hop after Run-DMC put My Adidas on record on 29 May 1986 and had Madison Square Garden hold their shoes in the air that July, producing the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. The Gazelle rode a different wave, European terrace and indie dressing, where the appeal was precisely that it looked like nothing. Halo Blush is that same instinct updated: a shoe that signals taste through restraint. In India adidas has built the same case through Bollywood, signing Ranveer Singh as ambassador in 2015.
Suede upper with a raised nap, suede Three Stripes stitched flat along the side, and a low profile gum style sole that sits close to the ground. The Gazelle's build is deliberately thin: minimal padding, a soft heel, a shoe that breaks in fast and moulds to your foot rather than supporting it. Pale suede is the most demanding surface in the adidas Originals range because there is no pattern to hide anything and no dark base to absorb marks. The Three Stripes here are the same stitched construction adidas has used since it bought the mark in 1952, when the stripes were structural reinforcement for the upper rather than branding, which is why they still sit under thread and not on top of it.
