Designed by Kanye West and released on 26 December 2018 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Static/Static/Static. Static is the Boost 350 V2 colourway that abandoned the terrain palette for pure noise. Instead of Oxford Tan or Moonrock you get a knit that behaves like television snow, a fine grey and cream interference pattern across the whole upper. This is the reflective execution, which is a different proposition from the plain one: in daylight it is the same restless grey, and under a camera flash or headlights the threading lights up and the shoe becomes the brightest thing in the frame. That dual state is why Static Reflective became a night colourway with its own following. The model launched on 24 September 2016 and by the Static era the design conversation had moved entirely to what the knit itself could do.
Play to the double life. First recipe for day: mid grey tailored sweatpants, a white tee, a black overshirt, letting the interference pattern read as a subtle texture. Second recipe for night: all black, a black tee and black straight trousers, so the shoe is the only thing that catches light when a flash goes off. Occasion: evenings, gigs, night driving and anything that ends up photographed. Fit is snug and narrow through the midfoot, so half a size up is the common advice. Care: dry brush only, spot clean with mild soap on a soft cloth, avoid stiff brushes and solvents because they kill the reflective yarn, never machine wash, and dry in shade.
The 350 V2 made the sneaker drop into a mainstream cultural event, and reflective colourways gave that culture a night time signature, one you could read across a dark street or in a flash photograph. Limited stock, queues, bots and a resale economy grew around these releases and became the industry template, and GQ named the line the most influential sneakers in 2016. The end came on 25 October 2022, when adidas terminated the partnership after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and violated company values. Reflective 350s now circulate as remaining stock and resale, no longer part of a live adidas range.
Primeknit is the base, the one piece machine knitted upper that gives the 350 V2 its sock like fit with no traditional panels, and the reflective effect is carried in the yarn itself rather than applied as a coating, which is why the pattern survives flexing at the toe. Boost underneath is the expanded TPU pellet foam that supplies the model's bounce and its speckled surface. There is no visible logo anywhere on the shoe. In use the fit is the familiar 350 V2 story, close through the midfoot, low over the instep and light for its footprint. The one care note that matters: reflective threading dulls if you scrub it, so cleaning has to be gentle to keep the flash intact.
