Origin
Every Air Jordan 1 wearing a black toe traces back to the same 1985 blocking, and the Taxi is that scheme rebuilt in a colour Jordan fans already knew from elsewhere. Instead of the University Gold that runs through the more familiar retros, this pair uses Taxi yellow, the exact shade lifted from the Air Jordan 12 Taxi, which is why the combination feels inevitable rather than novel. It existed as a sample for years before it ever reached shelves, circulating in photos while people argued about whether it would release at all. It finally landed in September 2022 as the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Taxi, style 555088-711, cut as a proper OG: high collar, original proportions, Wings logo on the ankle. Yellow Toe is what the community calls it. Taxi is what the box says.
Utility
Two ways to wear the Taxi. Clean: raw or mid-blue denim with a straight leg breaking over the collar, a white tee, a black jacket, so the yellow reads as an accent instead of a theme. Bolder: black cargos cuffed above the ankle with the collar showing, plus one yellow piece elsewhere, a cap or a jacket lining, so the shoe has an echo. Air Jordan 1 Highs fit true to size across low, mid and high, and narrow feet often prefer half a size down for a snugger hold. The premium leather on an OG is stiff, so give it two to three weeks of short wears before judging the ankle collar. Construction
All leather, top to bottom, which is the first thing you notice picking these up next to a modern Jordan 1. A white leather base carries black across the toe, the Swoosh and the collar, while Taxi yellow takes the toe overlay, the heel and the ankle panel, so the colour wraps the shoe instead of sitting in one place. Sail runs through the supporting details, softening the white so the pair reads warm and worn-in straight out of the box rather than clinical. The midsole is white and the outsole is yellow rubber, and that yellow bottom is what makes the shoe legible from across a street. The sole unit is the same one the model has run since the start, stiff for a fortnight, then moulded to you.
