Designed by Peter Moore and released on 26 April 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a suede upper in Sail/University Red/Black/Medium Olive. Travis Scott is a Jordan Brand collaborator, with Cactus Jack versions of the Air Jordan 1, 4 and 6 to his name. The olive Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG SP is the one that turned the low cut into a queue shoe rather than a summer alternative, and this is that release cut for pre school kids. The Retro Low OG keeps the 1985 pattern Peter Moore drew and simply removes the collar, which changes the silhouette from basketball equipment to something closer to a court shoe. In olive, with the collaboration's reversed detailing, it is a children's pair that carries an adult's release story without needing to explain itself.
For everyday wear, olive works with almost anything a child already owns: try black joggers with a cuff above the shoe and a cream hoodie, or khaki shorts with a striped tee for warm weather. Both let the reversed detailing stay visible instead of being covered. Low tops need a proper sock, so avoid no-show styles that slip at the heel. Pre school sizing changes fast, so check thumb-width clearance at the toe every couple of months rather than assuming last season's size. Wipe the olive panels with a damp cloth after use, use a soft brush on the midsole, and keep them out of the washing machine, which destroys cupsole adhesive.
Jordan Brand's collaboration programme runs across streetwear, luxury and music, with Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS on the design side, and Travis Scott, Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj on the music side. Scott's Cactus Jack work on the 1, 4 and 6 is among the most chased of that set, which is why a kids size of the olive low is treated as a collector item as much as footwear. The Air Jordan 1 created sneaker collecting as a mass activity, and the resale market it anchors has been valued at roughly 2 billion dollars, a market these smaller sizes now sit inside.
The low cut ends below the ankle, so the whole shoe is quarter panel, toe and heel, which is why the reversed Swoosh treatment on this collaboration reads so strongly at small scale. Olive sits against off-white panels and a white midsole, and a rubber cupsole runs underneath. Pre school sizing means a shorter, wider last, a softer collar and usually an easier entry than the adult pair, built for feet that are still changing shape. Olive is a forgiving colour on children's shoes: it hides playground dust far better than the white and grey pairs, and the low cut is quick to get on.
