Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 9 December 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 11 line. This release has a patent leather upper in White/Black/Metallic Gold. The Air Jordan 11 is the model that put patent leather on a basketball court, and that single material decision is why it is the one Jordan people wear with a suit. Tinker Hatfield had taken the line over from the third shoe and turned it into a design series with its own codes; the 11 pushed that furthest by importing a formal wear material into performance footwear. Defining Moments is a commemorative designation rather than a colour description, which is why this pair reads as a trophy shoe rather than a seasonal release. The 11 carries more ceremony than any other number in the catalogue, and a DMP execution is the version of it that leans hardest into that.
Two recipes. First, the one the shoe was built for: black tailored trousers with a black knit and a coat, where the patent shine matches the formality of the fabric above it. Second, black track pants with a plain hoodie, the athletic reading, letting the metallic detailing do the work against flat cotton. The 11 runs snug and long, so most people size true and lace loosely through the midfoot. Never wear patent leather in heavy rain and never store it pressed against another shoe, because patent transfers colour. Use shoe trees, keep it in the box away from heat, and wipe after every wear.
The 11 is the model that proved Air Jordan had stopped being sportswear. Because patent leather belongs to dress shoes, wearing an 11 with tailoring became a recognised move rather than an accident, and that is a rare thing for any sneaker to earn. Jordan Brand became a standalone Nike division in 1997 and reached roughly 5.1 billion dollars by 2022, and heritage models issued in commemorative packs are a meaningful part of how it holds attention year after year. The resale market Air Jordan anchors is valued at around two billion dollars, and 11s in ceremonial colourways sit near the top of it.
Patent leather is the defining material here, first used on the 11 and still the reason the model looks lacquered rather than matte under light. It is also the most particular material in the catalogue to own. Patent scuffs show as white lines rather than as dulling, it creases sharply at the flex point instead of softening, and it cannot be brushed. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and a little water, never a solvent or an abrasive. Nike Air cushioning has been in the line since the second model. The mesh style upper above the patent breathes far better than the shine suggests, which is what let the shoe function as equipment rather than as a costume in the first place.
