Released on 22 January 2025 and part of New Balance's 1906 line. This release has a mesh upper in Great Plains/Slate Grey/Incense. Great Plains is a colour story more than a colourway, slate grey against incense, a smoky neutral pairing that sounds like weather over open ground. The 1906 platform comes from New Balance's technical running catalogue of the two thousands, when shoes were drawn to look like equipment, and the 1906A is a variant of that family. Pulling it toward earth tones rather than lab greys shifts the whole reading of the shape. This is a brand whose running credibility runs back to the Trackster in 1960, the first running shoe offered in varying widths, spread through YMCA fitness programmes and college cross country, so an outdoors palette on a technical shoe is not a costume.
Utility
Build an earth outfit: brown or tobacco trousers, a stone knit, an olive or tan jacket, so the incense tones tie the whole thing together and the slate grey grounds it. Construction
The upper works the 1906 family's layered arrangement of engineered mesh with synthetic overlays and suede, slate grey holding the structure while the incense tones warm the overlays and branding, so the panelling reads as depth instead of contrast. Underfoot the platform uses ABZORB, New Balance's proprietary foam and rubber polymer blend that disperses heel strike impact before it travels up into the knees and hips. It is plusher and lighter than the polyurethane and EVA construction of ENCAP and less structurally supportive, so the ride is cushioned rather than corrective. Multiple width fittings remain the brand's oldest technical promise, inherited from the arch support business, so pick the width your foot is rather than sizing up.
