New Balance 9060 Mushroom

Released on 6 November 2023 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a suede upper in Mushroom/Dark Mushroom/Timberwolf. Mushroom is a soft greyed taupe, the colour of unbleached materials rather than dyed ones, and it lands well on the 9060 because it makes an aggressive shape look almost natural. The silhouette is built from the panel language of New Balance's 99x running line, exaggerated into curves and volume the originals never carried, so a quiet organic tone is the easiest way to keep the design from tipping into spectacle. This is a brand that priced above its competitors on manufacturing and fit rather than on styling, and a colourway named after a fungus is about as far from marketing gloss as a modern sneaker gets.
