Released on 27 October 2023 and part of the NOCTA Glide line. This release has a mesh upper in White/White/Chrome/University Gold. The Glide is the shoe NOCTA built with Nike rather than a Nike model handed over for a new coat of paint, which is the distinction that matters in a market full of colourway collaborations. It sits in the lineage of Nike's willingness to let outside labels operate inside its factory, a habit that goes back further than most people assume: the company began in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports distributing Onitsuka Tiger, and its defining creative partnership, with the agency Wieden and Kennedy from 1976, produced Just Do It. Triple white is a summer and a smart casual tool. First: cream or stone wide leg trousers with a break, a plain white tee, and the shoe extending the leg line instead of interrupting it. Second: light wash denim, a navy crew and no visible socks, the easy warm weather fit where a clean white shoe does all the tidying. Avoid rain and grass entirely: this is a dry pavement shoe. Size true and check the fit at the collar, since a newer silhouette will not follow the sizing habits of an Air Force 1. Nike's collaboration model changed once labels started arriving with their own audiences rather than borrowing Nike's. The brand's own history with culture was not always well handled: it used the Beatles' Revolution in 1987 without Apple Records' approval and pulled the ads in March 1988 after a lawsuit, and Nike SB appropriated Minor Threat album art in 2005 before apologising publicly. It also plugs into the older truth that from the 1980s onward Nike was a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion, which is why a music label's shoe is treated as a Nike release rather than a side project.
An all white build puts every seam under inspection. What you read instead of colour is surface: the difference between smooth and textured panels, the line of the midsole, the profile of the collar and how the lacing structure sits against the upper. Nike Air, the pressurised gas unit sealed inside the midsole and the company's foundational cushioning idea, is the platform underneath most lifestyle silhouettes in this register. White uppers are unforgiving in daily use and white midsoles yellow with UV rather than with dirt, so where you store them matters as much as how you clean them.
