Designed by Peter Moore and released on 12 August 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Seafoam/Healing Orange/White. The Air Jordan 1 exists because Nike was losing basketball to Converse and adidas and decided to buy a rookie's identity instead of a superstar's. Michael Jordan signed on 26 October 1984, six years and 2.5 million dollars, roughly three times any other deal in the league, with a royalty on sales written in. Peter Moore drew the shoe with Bruce Kilgore, it reached the public on 1 April 1985, and the first 50,000 pairs sold out. This women's Retro High OG keeps the original cut and the winged ankle logo of that earliest era, then swaps the Chicago red for seafoam, a soft mineral green that reads closer to a mid century kitchen than a hardwood floor. The pattern is strong enough to carry a palette nobody in 1985 would have approved.
Seafoam wants quiet around it. Recipe one: ecru wide leg trousers, a white ribbed tank, a slouched grey knit over the shoulder, silver hardware only. The green then reads as the single deliberate colour in the outfit. Recipe two: washed indigo straight jeans cuffed once so the collar shows, a cream cotton shirt worn open, and a small black shoulder bag to stop the pastel from tipping sweet. The high collar is best laced through every eyelet for the first few wears while the leather softens, then loosened at the top two for the slouch look. Keep them off wet streets, since pale panels stain from the sole up, and store them upright with paper in the toe so the crease sets where you want it.
Nike put this silhouette into film language before sneaker marketing was a category, hiring Spike Lee to direct the advertising and casting him as Mars Blackmon opposite Michael Jordan. That is why the 1 never reads as sportswear alone. Rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z wrote Jordan and his sneakers into their records, and the shoe went on to create sneaker collecting as a mass activity, anchoring a resale market valued at roughly 2 billion dollars. Women's exclusive colourways like seafoam are where that inheritance gets tested: same shape, palette the archive never held, and demand that behaves exactly like the men's grid.
Leather across toe, quarter and collar, with the seafoam concentrated on the overlays so the panel lines stay readable from a distance and the white ground does the balancing. The OG spec is the part you feel: the collar sits high and stiff out of the box and gives over a week or two rather than arriving soft, which is why these hold an ankle better than the low cut. Underneath is the flat rubber cupsole the 1 has always run, close to the ground, with the pivot circle at the forefoot. Leather this pale reports everything, so brush the nap of the collar lining, keep a protectant on the toe panel before the first wear, and unlace to dry rather than forcing them onto a radiator.
