Designed by Peter Moore and released on 14 February 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a twill upper in Team Red/Pink Prime. The women's Valentine's Day Dunk Low is a seasonal shoe that behaves like a permanent one, using deep reds and pinks in a way that stays wearable well past the date on the calendar. Nike has always understood the commercial value of an occasion, but the reason a holiday colourway can carry a whole release is the shape underneath it, a court silhouette recognisable enough that colour alone can create a story. That recognition took decades to build, starting from Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964, running through the Swoosh's first use on 18 June 1971 and its trademark registration on 22 January 1974, and ending with a mark that can be rendered in any shade and still be read.
Wear one: lean into it, cream wide leg trousers with a soft pink knit, where the reds finish a tonal fit without shouting. Wear two: cool it down, black straight leg denim with a grey oversized shirt, so the red becomes a single deliberate accent. Good for daily wear, dates and weekends, poor in wet weather if the base is pale. Women's Dunk lasts run narrow, so size up half if you have a wider foot or wear thicker socks. Care: protect before first wear, clean red panels with a mild solution since aggressive cleaners dull the tone, treat lighter panels separately, and dry out of direct sunlight.
Nike's women's business rests on athletes as much as anything else. The brand has sponsored track athletes including Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Allyson Felix, and Serena Williams is an endorser who publicly backed Nike's September 2018 campaign built around Colin Kaepernick. That is the serious half of the picture. The other half is fashion: from the 1980s onward Nike's court models became status symbols in urban and hip hop fashion and then part of mainstream everyday dress, which is why a holiday colourway on a basketball shape is a normal product rather than a novelty. Both halves are the same company, and it needs both.
The build uses panelled construction to carry the red and pink blocking, with the Swoosh and overlays cut as separate pieces on the base, sometimes with a heart motif or textural detail as the seasonal element, over a foam midsole and a rubber outsole with the forefoot pivot. This is the women's last, which runs narrower through the heel and midfoot than the men's version, so it fits differently rather than just smaller. Reds are among the harder dyes to keep looking rich, since sun exposure dulls them faster than neutrals. Store these away from windows and expect the lighter pink elements to need the most attention.
