Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 21 June 2019 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Synth/Synth/Synth. Synth belongs to the later stretch of the Boost 350 V2, when the label stopped naming colourways after terrain and started naming them after processes and textures. The model itself launched on 24 September 2016 and by the time Synth appeared the silhouette was familiar enough that the interest had moved to how the knit was patterned rather than what shape it was. This is the non reflective version, which matters: it is the plain daylight execution, without the glass bead treatment that lights up under a camera flash. That makes it the quieter, more wearable half of the pair. Kanye West founded the label in 2013 after leaving Nike, and the 350 V2 is the shoe that proved the design argument commercially, generating scale that few signature partnerships have matched.
Utility
The mottled pastel knit is the loudest thing you will wear, so keep everything else flat. First recipe: cream wide leg trousers, a white ribbed tank under an open oversized shirt in the same cream family, so the shoe carries the only pattern. Second recipe: light wash denim shorts, a plain grey tee, low white socks, for genuine heat. Occasion: daytime, casual, warm weather. Avoid pairing with printed shirts, because two patterns cancel each other here. Fit is the usual 350 V2 story, narrow through the midfoot and snug at the toe, so many people size up half. Care: dry brush after wear, spot clean with mild soap and a soft cloth, never machine wash, and dry in shade because the pale knit will yellow in strong sun.
Influence
By the time Synth released, the 350 V2 had already changed how sneakers are sold. Scarcity driven drops produced queue culture, bot buying and a resale market that turned release day into a mainstream event, and the silhouette became one of the most recognisable of the 2010s. That commercial run reached roughly two billion dollars a year for adidas before it ended. It ended on 25 October 2022, when adidas terminated the partnership after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. The Synth pairs sit in that late period, when the design language had been absorbed so widely across the market that its patterns were being copied at every price point.
Construction
Primeknit does the work here, the one piece machine knitted upper that wraps the foot without traditional panels, and Synth uses a mottled multi tone knit rather than a flat single colour so the pattern shifts as light moves across it. Under that sits Boost, the expanded TPU pellet midsole that gives the 350 V2 its spring and its speckled look. The non reflective build means the threading stays matte in all conditions, so what you see indoors is what you get at night. No visible logo appears anywhere, in line with the anti branding approach across most of the adidas Yeezy line. The result is a shoe that reads textured up close and neutral from a distance.
