Released on 5 February 2026 and part of the Adistar XLG 2.0 line. This release has the Core Black/Core Black/Silver Metallic colourway. The Adistar name has moved through adidas running for a long time, attached at different points to serious distance shoes and to experimental ones. XLG 2.0 is the version built for scale rather than speed: an exaggerated, oversized runner where the midsole is the whole design and the upper exists to hold your foot on top of it. Core Black Silver keeps it severe, a full black body with metallic silver detailing, which suits a shape this large because colour would only make it louder. This is adidas doing what it has always done best in running, which is treating the part of the shoe you cannot see as the product.
Big shoes need long, heavy clothing to balance them. Recipe one: wide black technical trousers with a break that just covers the collar, plus a black shell jacket, so the silhouette reads as one continuous dark column and the silver detailing is the only highlight. Recipe two: grey heavyweight sweatpants and a charcoal hoodie, keeping everything in the same tonal family so the volume looks intentional rather than accidental. Avoid slim or cropped trousers, which make an oversized sole look like a mistake. Chunky runners run roomy through the toe box, so go true to size. Wipe the midsole sidewalls regularly, since on a shoe this tall they take the most abrasion and are the first thing anyone notices.
adidas has a documented appetite for engineering spectacle. The adidas 1 of 2005 was marketed as the world's first intelligent shoe, with a microprocessor performing five million calculations a second to adjust cushioning, and springblade replaced foam entirely with splayed blades. Neither became the standard, but both established that adidas would rather be caught overreaching than looking conservative. The XLG line belongs to the same instinct pushed into lifestyle: a shoe that argues its case through visible volume. It is also the shape language that current culture rewards, which is why the brand keeps handing versions of it to collaborators like Pharrell Williams and Bad Bunny.
The defining element is a tall, sculpted midsole with visible layering and a wide platform, which is what gives the XLG its stance and its underfoot separation from the ground. The upper is built in panels and mesh over that base, with the silver used on overlays and branding so the shoe catches light on the shapes rather than across a flat surface. adidas has serious credibility here: Boost, the thermoplastic polyurethane developed with German chemical company BASF and launched in 2013, proved that a midsole material could be a brand asset, and the adizero racing line pairs thermoplastic polyester elastomer with embedded carbon rods rather than one rigid plate.
