Nike signed Michael Jordan to sell a young player's identity, not a superstar's, and the Air Jordan 1 that followed was never intended to be a subtle object. Which makes a colourway like Pewter with Photon Dust and Blue Chill quietly funny: three soft, low-saturation greys and a pale cold blue, on the silhouette that built its reputation on argument.
