Designed by Peter Moore and released on 10 November 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Light Smoke Grey/White/Gym Red. Gym red is one of the Air Jordan house colours, the shade that came out of Chicago and ended up functioning as a brand mark alongside black and white. Setting it against light grey instead of white cools the whole shoe down. This is an SE build of the Low, the cut that took Peter Moore's 1985 outline and removed the ankle so it could live outside basketball, and the special edition licence usually shows up in how the panels are finished rather than in the shape. The result is a version of the most argued about sneaker in history that behaves like a normal grey shoe until the Swoosh catches the light. That restraint is the point of a grey and red split.
Use the red as your accent and build cool around it. Grey wool trousers, a white oxford and a navy overshirt lets the shoe finish an office adjacent outfit with one warm note. For weekends, mid wash denim, a grey crew sweat and a red beanie or cap picks the accent up twice and reads deliberate. It is a light shoe for dry weather, not a monsoon pick. Size true to length with a snug midfoot that opens as the leather gives. Protect before first wear, wipe the midsole edge the same day it scuffs, and rotate it out of daily use so the grey does not flatten into a single dull tone.
Grey and red is Air Jordan speaking in a lower register than the campaign that built it. The line's early notoriety came from a league uniform policy requiring shoes to be at least 51 percent white, which Nike answered by paying the 5,000 dollar per game fine and building the Banned advertising around it. Transgression sold, and the market learned the lesson permanently. Decades on, the same silhouette also sells as a muted grey sneaker for people who never watched a Bulls game, which is only possible because Jordan Brand became a Nike division in 1997 with the freedom to run a full wardrobe of colour rather than a team kit.
Light grey carries the toe, quarter and collar with gym red placed as the accent, most often on the Swoosh and heel, so the shoe has one hot zone and everything else stays soft. Leather panels follow the original cut lines, the toe box keeps its perforations, and a foam midsole sits over a rubber outsole. Because the collar is low, your lacing tension across the eyestay is the only thing holding your midfoot, so pull evenly rather than tightening the top pair alone. Light grey is a demanding colour on Indian roads: dust settles into the perforations and greys the shoe down further. Dry brush weekly and keep the red panel away from solvent based cleaners.
