Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 23 September 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a synthetic upper in Vachetta Tan/Black/Sail. Heirloom is a name with a claim in it, and on the OG High cut the claim mostly holds. This is the original outline, designed by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, the shoe whose first 50,000 pairs sold out and which passed 150 million dollars in sales when Nike had planned for roughly 3 million dollars across three years. The Retro High OG programme reissues that construction rather than reinterpreting it, which is why the code stays in the family that has carried this shoe for decades. Heirloom pushes it into a warmer, aged register instead of the primary reds and blacks, a colourway built to look like something inherited rather than something bought new.
Utility
Warm, aged tones ask for natural fabrics. First: brown wide leg trousers with a cream cable knit and a tan belt, an outfit where the shoe is the oldest looking thing in the frame on purpose. Second: washed black denim with an olive field jacket, which drops the warmth into something rougher for daily wear. Highs sit best under a hem that stops above the collar, so cuff once rather than stacking fabric. Leave the top eyelet unlaced if you want the ankle to move. Brush and condition rather than scrub, keep them out of prolonged sun, and store with a shoe tree so the collar keeps its shape between wears.
Influence
The High OG is the shape everyone quotes. Its cultural charge came from the Banned campaign, which grew out of the NBA requiring shoes at least 51 percent white and Nike paying the 5,000 dollar per game fine instead of redesigning, and from hip hop, where 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z referenced Jordan and his sneakers directly. Sneaker collecting became a mass activity around this model, with original 1985 pairs trading around 20,000 dollars on StockX and the wider resale market valued at roughly 2 billion dollars. Collaborators including Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Supreme, KAWS, Comme des Garcons and Dior have all returned to this exact upper.
Construction
The OG High is a simple shoe done carefully: panelled leather upper, full collar, the Wings logo of the earliest era on the ankle, and a lace set long enough that lacing choice changes the silhouette. An aged, warm colourway lives or dies on how the leather takes a crease, and this shape creases early across the toe box by design, since the panels flex where your foot bends. Nike has not published the leather grade, panel weights or any measurement for this pair, and no number here is invented to fill that gap. Size it true and expect a firm first week. Condition the leather occasionally rather than cleaning it aggressively, since warm tones lift under harsh solvents.
