Released on 27 February 2025 and part of Nike's Vomero 18 line. This release has a mesh upper in Light Silver/Barely Volt/Dusty Olive/College Grey. The Vomero has always been the soft one. Where the Vaporfly chases speed with ZoomX and a carbon plate, and the Pegasus handles the everyday, the Vomero is built for the runner who wants the ride to feel generous first and quick second. The 18 is the current generation. Dusty Olive is where this pair separates from the rest of the line: a muted green-brown that belongs to outdoor and workwear palettes rather than to running kit, which is why this colourway gets bought by people who never intend to race in it and worn by people who do. Recipe one, running: easy and long efforts where comfort beats pace, with a mid crew sock and black or olive shorts, keeping the fit tonal. Recipe two, casual: brown or sand wide trousers with a cream knit and an olive field jacket, where the shoe is the anchor of an entirely earth-toned outfit and reads as intentional rather than sporty. Nike's running credibility is not recent and not borrowed. The company was founded in 1964 by a track coach and one of his runners, its first endorser in the sport was Steve Prefontaine, whose statue stands at the Beaverton headquarters, and its sponsorship line has run through Sebastian Coe, Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix. What changed over the decades is that running shoes stopped being only for runners: from the 1980s onward Nike models moved into casual dress, then into the athleisure looks of the 1990s and 2000s. A muted olive daily trainer is the most current expression of that crossover, sold to both audiences at once without pretending otherwise.
A tall, cushioned foam midsole aimed at comfort rather than propulsion, paired with a breathable mesh upper, a padded collar and a rubber outsole on the wear zones. There is no plate and no racing intent here, so the sensation is cushioned and even rather than snappy. The Dusty Olive execution keeps the upper, midsole and outsole in a close tonal range, which is what makes the shoe look like footwear rather than equipment: contrast trims are what usually give a running shoe away. Olive mesh hides trail dust and road grime well, though it will lighten with sun exposure over a long summer of use, so storage out of direct light is worth the effort.
