Designed by Peter Moore and released on 27 October 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Starfish/Cacao Wow/Sail. Starfish is a warm, sunbaked tone, and Jordan Brand tends to save colours like this for the women's High OG, where the full collar gives a warm shade enough surface to actually register. High OG means the shoe is reissued to original specification: original panel proportions, the Wings logo high on the ankle, Nike Air on the tongue. That original came from Peter Moore, working with Bruce Kilgore, for a Chicago Bulls rookie Nike had signed on 26 October 1984 with a royalty attached to sales. It was produced for Jordan on 17 November 1984 and reached the public on 1 April 1985, when the first 50,000 pairs sold out on the way past 150 million dollars.
Two fits. Warm on warm: cream or tan wide leg trousers, an oatmeal knit, and a brown bag, letting the shoe sit inside a single sunlit palette. Or cool it down: black cropped trousers, a white shirt, and a navy or grey coat, where the warm tone becomes the one point of heat in the outfit. The High needs a cuffed or cropped hem so the collar shows. Women's sizing runs narrow, so size up half for a wide foot or thick socks. Brush and condition the leather, keep the midsole clean because it frames a warm upper sharply, and rotate the pair so the crease does not deepen.
The Air Jordan 1 High is the shape the entire fashion system borrows from. Jordan Brand's design collaborations have run through Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS, while Travis Scott's Cactus Jack work covered the 1, 4 and 6. That is only possible because the High carries so much already: Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising with Lee playing Mars Blackmon, the Banned campaign that taught the market transgression sells, and the collecting culture the shoe created almost single handedly. A warm toned women's High OG takes all of that and makes it wearable rather than commemorative.
A leather upper on the OG pattern, perforated toe box for airflow, separate mudguard, eyestay and heel counter, a padded ankle collar and a rubber cupsole with the concentric pivot circle. The women's High sits on a narrower last, so the ankle is held closer and the collar does more of the work keeping your foot back in the shoe, which is why a High creases lower and more evenly than a Mid. Warm mid saturation colours age well on leather, dulling gradually rather than staining, but they do fade in strong sun. Condition the leather a few times a year and let the pair dry naturally after wet weather.
