Released on 15 March 2024 and part of Nike's ZoomX Invincible 3 line. This release has a flyknit upper in Black/Black/Anthracite. ZoomX is the most consequential material Nike has made in decades: an altered Pebax foam, the lightest and most responsive in its range, developed for the Vaporfly and the racing shoes that forced distance running to rewrite its equipment rules. The Invincible takes that same foam and puts it under a daily trainer instead of a race shoe, which is a different proposition entirely. Instead of chasing a personal best over a single marathon, the point is to make ordinary miles feel soft enough that you keep doing them. Black with Anthracite is the honest version of this shoe: no colour story, no seasonal styling, just the most technical foam Nike has, dressed for winter roads and early mornings.
Two uses. First, easy and recovery running: long slow miles, the day after a hard session, and any run where the goal is time on feet rather than pace. Technical socks, no cotton, laced firm at the midfoot. Second, standing and walking days: hospital shifts, long travel, city days, where a soft tall stack is genuinely better than a fashion sneaker. It is not a gym shoe, because soft foam is unstable under lateral load and heavy lifting. Buy your usual running size with a thumb width at the front. Air after every run, remove the insole to dry, hand wash the knit with mild soap, and never machine wash or heat dry the foam.
Nike's running credibility begins with Bill Bowerman deciding American runners deserved lighter shoes and pouring rubber into a waffle iron to prove it, then runs through Steve Prefontaine as the brand's first track endorser and sponsored athletes including Sebastian Coe, Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix. The foam and plate era changed the sport enough that World Athletics issued rules on 31 January 2020 limiting sole thickness to 40mm and permitting one rigid plate. Daily trainers using racing foam are the trickle down from that arms race: technology developed to win championships, redeployed so amateurs can enjoy an easy Sunday run.
Style code DR2615 005 places it in Nike's black range. The midsole is ZoomX, the altered Pebax foam Nike developed for racing, used here in a tall, wide stack designed to maximise cushioning over distance rather than to snap you forward at speed. That width matters, because a soft tall foam needs a broad platform to stay stable, which is the main engineering problem this shoe solves. The upper is a knit construction in the Flyknit and Flywire tradition, restraining the foot with as little material as possible. Black and Anthracite is the practical choice for a road shoe in poor weather because grime reads as tone rather than damage.
